About the Wisconsin Poison Center
The Wisconsin Poison Center, located in Milwaukee, provides 24-hour, toll-free poison information for all individuals in the State of Wisconsin. In Febuary of 2005, the Poison Center received national certification by the American Association of Poison Control Centers, which is the nationwide organization that sets standards and collects exposure data for poison centers across the country.
Anyone having had direct contact with a known or potential poison can receive immediate advice on what steps to take to prevent injury from that exposure. From anywhere within Wisconsin, land and cell phone access for the general public, industry, EMS, and health care workers is obtained at:

The Wisconsin Poison Center (WPC) is the authorized poison information service by the Division of Health for the state of Wisconsin serving over 5.3 million residents. This designation was granted June 2001. The WPC uses a staff of dedicated RN's, the majority of whom are nationally Certified Specialists by the American Association of Poison Control Centers. The nurses have been trained in clinical toxicology by the poison center medical director. Three physician toxicologists provide medical direction, supervision, and 24-hour availability to the WPC. The Children's Hospital of Wisconsin extensively supports this program with dedicated administrative guidance, funding, telecommunications, information systems technology, and disaster backup to assure uninterrupted and well-planned 24-hour service.
The WPC belongs to the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) This organization represents poison centers on national issues and facilitates the national emergency phone number 1-800-222-1222 along with the Poison Help Network.
The Wisconsin Poison Center collaborates with the Minnesota, Iowa, North and South Dakota poison centers to form the “Midwest Regional Poison Interest Group” (MR PIG).
